About him

Biography

A diplomat and scholar for whom the word was always the chief instrument — and a weapon.

Borys Ivanovych Humenyuk
Borys Ivanovych Humenyuk.

Borys Ivanovych Humenyuk was born on 18 June 1953 in the village of Murovani Kurylivtsi in the Vinnytsia region. In 1976 he graduated from Kyiv University and has since devoted his life to diplomacy — as a practitioner, scholar and teacher. Doctor of Historical Sciences (1994), professor (1995).

He twice headed the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1996–2003 and 2007–2012) and twice represented Ukraine as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Cyprus (2003–2007 and 2012–2019). He holds the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, 1st class. Today he heads the Department of the History of International Relations and Humanitarian Studies at Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.

He is the author and co-author of the first Ukrainian textbooks on the fundamentals of diplomatic and consular service, on which generations of diplomats have been trained. Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2009), member of the Union of Slavic Writers of Ukraine, and laureate of the Viktor Tymchuk Prize.

And beyond the offices and lecture halls — a loving and respected husband, father and grandfather, for whom family was always the reason behind it all.
